The state of California does not take one becoming a professional Security Guard lightly. There are many requirements that a prospective applicant must meet in order to be eligible for hire by a professional security guard company in San Jose.
When applying for the license needed to become a security guard, the prospect must be at least 18 years of age, submit to a state of California and a Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal background check and have committed no offense which would result in his or her security guard license being suspended or revoked. There are nominal fees for the background checks as well as the state and federal fingerprinting process that must also be completed.
There are numerous classes that a person must take to gain licensing to be a security guard, with additional training required for those interested in becoming armed security guards in San Jose. Some are required courses under state of California and some are elective courses that can be chosen. Required courses that must be completed are as follows:

The list of elective courses is diverse with all courses ranging from 2 – 4 hours. These courses consist of but are not limited to CPR/First Aid, firearm and baton training, crowd control and workplace violence.
Prospective security guards must also complete security guard training in a state licensed facility or through their prospective employer within six months from the issuance of the license or after becoming employed with a licensed security guard company. Each year there is also an eight hour continuing education requirement that must be completed. This training may be provided by the company that the security guard works for.
